Relief for Hip and Knee Pain

Unfortunately, many people suffer from hip or knee pain at some point in their lives. Being large joints, the hips and knees carry much of our body weight and wear much of the forces of day-to-day life. When the hips and knees become painful, discouraging diagnoses of ‘wear and tear’ and ‘arthritis’ are often issued and pain killers and anti-inflammatories are prescribed or worse, surgery.

Fortunately, there is often much to be gained from hands-on manipulative treatment combined with a well designed plan to build functional strength and unload the struggling joints.

Much knee or hip joint pain can also be related to misalignments in the lower back, pelvis, leg or even the ankle and can be significantly alleviated through osteopathic treatment alone within a small number of treatments.

To help you with your hip or knee pain, we may use techniques such as soft-tissue manipulation and myofascial releases (similar to remedial massage), dry needling (assessed as an option case by case), balancing of ligamentous tension (gentle joint releasing techniques), muscle energy techniques as well as various joint manipulation techniques, depending on your needs, wishes and comfort levels with the techniques.

Generally, if the pain has lasted more than 3 days, it’s worth discussing it with your preferred health care practitioner.
