Relief for Headaches and Migraines: A Holistic Approach

Headaches are annoying at best, debilitating at worst and can stem from a wide variety of causes. Most headaches can be completely resolved within the space of a few treatments, others can usually be alleviated in intensity and reduced in frequency.

While some headaches may pose diagnostic and treatment challenges, many have straightforward causes and fortunately, simple solutions. Easy to diagnose and treat are headaches caused by tension and/or myofascial trigger points (knots) in neck and head muscles. Restricted (stuck) joints in the neck can also refer pain to the base of the skull and cause neck muscle tension which can refer pain into the temples, top of the head or ear.

To help you with your headache, we may use techniques such as soft-tissue manipulation and myofascial releases (similar to remedial massage), dry needling (assessed as an option case by case), balancing of ligamentous tension (gentle joint releasing techniques), muscle energy techniques as well as various joint manipulation techniques, depending on your needs, wishes and comfort levels with the techniques.

Generally, if the pain has lasted more than 3 days, it’s worth discussing it with your preferred health care practitioner.
